Hey, I’m Patrick.
I’m a multiple majoring, curious, independent, fast-learning, frugal, punctual, analogy-making, book loving, instrument playing, email-addicted, big word using, daydreaming, goal-oriented, weird, sneaky college student who dreams of one day dunking a basketball without the aid of a trampoline.
During elementary and middle school I was in the gifted program, but I was always the slacker kid. I would do as little as possible to get a good grade and then go so far as to hide my report card from my friends so they’d think I was doing just as bad as them.
This continued to my detriment through my upper teens. I never really learned anything at school and I was constantly late and inattentive unless I saw a chance to pounce on a teacher’s mistake or ask a question I already knew the answer to. I failed three classes at the start of my senior year of high school and lucked out with scholarships because I had joined the band my junior year. I slacked off through my first semester of college and barely made the Dean’s list. I then dropped my music major, lost my scholarship as a result, and spent an entire semester with “Sociology” as my major despite the fact that I was taking nothing remotely related to the major.
With my 20’s fast approaching, I knew that something had to be done. I changed to a multiple major track so I could begin looking at school as a game with “levels” - something that I could beat. I continued to learn, but I was learning much more than the subject material of my courses. I was learning how to be smart again. I spent all of my free time reading books and thinking of ways that I could make myself better, and soon thereafter began implementing patterns of behavior into my daily life. School has never been more interesting and I haven’t looked back since.
I have picked up a lot of tricks and advice which I do my best to relate in my articles in a funny and relevant way. I am still continuously in search of anything that I can do to better the lives of myself and others.
I hope you find what you are looking for.
Finally, I love when people participate in discussions with me and leave comments. Feel free to speak up!
