1. My aunt and uncle lived in Cookeville, so they wrote a letter saying I was living with them my sophomore year so I could get my own apartment. It not only saved money at the dorm/meal plans, but it was less stressful for me, because the dorms back in my day would close during breaks, and I had to stay with friend's parents since I would work during Spring Break/Christmas break.
2. I used to find all the 99 cent deals at different fast foods, and pizza specials. Not the most healthy, but saved me money. I also used to order foot long subways and put 6 inches of it in the fridge. It was cheaper to order the foot long as 2 meals rather than 2 6 inches at different times.
3. My old roommate's boyfriend was the manager at Ryan's Steakhouse. We ate free there a lot.
4. I worked at Blockbuster and bartered movies for food (I had another friend who was a bartender at Outback). This could get you into trouble though.
5. This sounds super cheap, but I lived just a few miles from school (by where the Belk/Old Navy/Sears/lots of other shopping is). Sometimes I would walk to school for the exercise and for the saving of gas money and potential parking tickets. And then sometimes someone I knew would see me walking and I'd hitch a ride.
