A hard concept for college students to grasp is that they are not guaranteed a job, a certain salary, or even a place to sleep at their parents’ house after graduation. Some of the richest people in the world don’t have college degrees, and some people with the supposed “best” degrees work their asses off every week for a proportionately mediocre wage.
You must get rid of this sense of entitlement and also realize that no amount of money in the world will make you love a job you hate.
If you are looking for an extensive list showing the average starting salary for each major, you need to look elsewhere. Pursuing a major just because of the money is completely ignorant. I am a firm believer in the value of passion and drive. Without possessing these attributes, you will never be truly rich no matter how much money you have in the bank.
When considering a college major that will provide you financial stability and a good quality of life, the statistics are not going to have all the answers. You won’t be graduating for 4, 5, hell maybe even ten years. If you pick accounting just because it is near the top of the money list and a new computer software is invented before you graduate that makes all accountants obsolete, what will you do? This is an unlikely scenario, but I use it to demonstrate that change happens fast. The people who will cope with it the best are the ones who love what they do.
If you want to be rich both financially and mentally, you must answer this article’s title yourself. I do not know you. Pick something that is at least somewhat related to something you enjoy. Use the knowledge you get from the courses and begin applying it outside of the classroom in your spare time.
