The law of attraction is bullshit.
I am not even going to capitalize it because that would deify it further than it already is. When The Secret came out in 2006, a whole new wave of people jumped on this bandwagon. Though the basic idea for the law of attraction is nothing new, it has been misconstrued into a materialistic pile of voodoo nonsense.
Maybe I am just overly analytical, but doesn’t the idea of being able to simply TELL the universe what you want in order to receive it seem a bit daft? I’d have been immortal, omnipotent, omniscient, essentially a God before my teens if the law of attraction actually worked. Though I wish it were not the case, there is no secret.
One of the things always recommended by law of attraction enthusiasts is to make a poster with your goals on it or something similar. All you have to do is think about what you want and ask the universe for it every time you take a crap and it will be yours…right?
Before even being aware of this little law of attraction idea, I was applying this in my own life without knowing I was being a copycat. My computer desktop is a collage of motivating images such as my future house, Michael Jordan’s last shot (as a bull), and my favorite book of all time, The Greatest Salesman in the World. Whether or not I obtain the house only involves the universe if she decides to launch a state-sized asteroid at Earth.
Potentially false manifestations of the secret:
- Santa Claus - In 1996, I asked for a Playstation for months. I got a Sega Genesis. QED.
- Karl Malone - If you were a Utah Jazz fan in the 1990’s, then you know that God and Santa Claus combined could have given Malone the ability to be a clutch player. (Maybe all the LDS in the atmosphere made his brain hemorrhage?)
Instead of asking the universe for something, why not ask yourself what you can do to make each day correlate with your future plans? I am a very optimistic person, but you have to also be realistic. Without your own hard, creative, intelligent work and a bit of luck, the universe isn’t going to give you anything.

I couldn’t agree with you more. With all the hype around the movie, I checked it out for myself a few months ago. I think I made it to the 10 minute mark before I turned it off. It’s scary that people actually buy stuff like this. It is almost criminal to produce stuff like this without a disclaimer….almost as bad as scientology…or any religion for that matter.
Ok..i’ll stop my rant.
cheers,
Adrian
haven’t seen the movie, but i understand that is deals with the law of attraction. the principle makes sense. it’s dealt with by anyone who is serious about quantum physics. of course, they never address it as “the law of attraction” lest they lose their credibility. the concept is pretty simple. the world is separated into individuals who take responsibility for their lives and victims who blame all their misfortunes on circumstance and other people. this doesn’t mean that someone who believes in the law of attraction will have an easy life of omnipotence and carefree abundance. understanding the law just allows one to understand how his own thoughts and attitude (conscious or subconscious) affect his surroundings. it is, of course, your choice to believe this stuff or not, but taking into account basic psychology, victim consciousness always results in a shitty life. responsibility is always the key to getting your life under control.

What about people with panic attacks who think they’re going to have a ‘heart attack for sure.’ Some of these people think that way every day. It rarely ever happens.
There are many panic attackers who live with the disorder for 40, 50, 60 years and never die of a heart attack.
There are many people who believe they’re going to die for sure, and DON’T. Some people who were sure they were going to die from diseases and suffered for months suddenly recovered…
Dittos…Someone told me of a person that had been raped by her father for 17 years since age 3 monthes. Would someone mind trying to explain how a three month old conceptualizes this let alone wishes for it?! or maybe just bad Karma? Or maybe just the bunk that it is.
